Born from Above

Winchester Cathedral's great window, smashed by Cromwell's forces in 1642 and reassembled from its saved shards, becomes a picture of new birth. Nicodemus has every religious credential, yet Jesus tells him he must be born from above, of water and the Spirit. On Trinity Sunday the sermon sets aside a lecture on doctrine and invites hearers to know the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, whose love brings about their rebirth.
