"Tithing to the Eternal Priest"

Oct 20, 2024    Rev. Charlie Holt

Continuing in the Draw Near sermon series through Hebrews, Reverend Holt delivers a theologically rich and pastorally grounded message on stewardship, sacrifice, and the meaning of giving in Christian worship. Drawing from the mysterious figure of Melchizedek and the high priestly ministry of Jesus, Holt calls believers to recognize tithing not as payment to an institution, but as a sacred offering to the eternal, living Christ.

The sermon begins with a liturgical reflection on the familiar phrase, “The Lord be with you.” Holt explains how this ancient exchange is not filler or crowd control, but a spiritual acknowledgment that Jesus Himself is present and presiding over the worship service. As our Great High Priest, Christ is the One to whom we ultimately give—not just our money, but our whole selves.
