“Back to the Basics: Growing Deeper in the Gospel” - 5pm The River Service

May 3, 2026    The Rev. Billy Cerveny

This sermon uses the analogy of a superhero without instructions to illustrate how Christians often struggle to live out their new identity in Christ despite being transformed by Him . It explains that spiritual growth doesn’t come from seeking advanced knowledge, but from continually returning to and going deeper into the foundational truths of the gospel—Jesus, His Word, and His work. The message emphasizes the need to “put off” old sinful patterns and instead depend on God like newborns, craving and immersing themselves in His Word. Ultimately, it reminds listeners that God deeply desires relationship with them, and true maturity comes from abiding in that love and letting it shape every part of life.
